Anniversary 5

Obviously my blog has taken the back seat. Intentional, really. I'm not sure I'll get back into blogging the way I was for a few years. I'm not shutting this down or anything -- there's too much here of value to thousands for me to delete the blog. I'm just not posting nearly as much. Plus, I have a journal, and I write and pray more than I used to blog on here, though my journal doesn't allow nearly the space my blog does. It doesn't seem to matter. Putting pressure on a pen makes up for the difference in my eyes -- and complete privacy. No one's looking but God. That's freeing.

Anyway, today is my five-year anniversary. We made it to five. It sounds simple, but for us, this is huge. Well, I guess simple can be huge, can't it? Sure. Regardless, we made it despite all the people in our lives who didn't think we would, despite the circumstances that would normally tear people apart, despite, well a lot that I'm not going to get into here.

These have honestly been the best five years of my life, even with everything we have been through.

For those of you who don't know the story, here's the very short version: We became pen pals in May of 2007. On July 8th, about two and a half months later, we met face to face for the first time, and 12 hours later, on Nicholas's birthday, we married in the middle of the woods for $100. Eight people were there, including us and a JP, since at the rate we wedded, no pastor would do it. People thought we were insane, but we wrote our own vows, and spent a very emotional (and fun) week camping with a cheap tent. Seven days after that, he deployed to Iraq and I moved away from everything I knew to start fresh in Idaho (to meet his family) until his return, which was sooner than we anticipated for obvious reasons. Our pen pal communication continued, and I sealed each letter with perfume and a kiss. Basically, we have the ultimate love story!

Nicholas and I have seen so many ups and downs that I consider our marriage nothing short of a miracle, and I thank God for every moment of it with a man far beyond my expectations and my wildest dreams. God has grown us both and has used us as an example to others despite our weaknesses, and for that I am especially grateful.

I'm not the best at showing appreciation for you, but I'm looking forward to showing it more in the next five years!! I love you so much, babe. : )
Then...
And now...
